The SkinPen microneedling device causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process without the use of lasers. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to remodeling of collagen and elastin. After a series of 3 treatments every 4-6 weeks, you will have real results for beautiful, healthier skin.
What to expect?
The SkinPen is the only FDA cleared microneedling device in the US.
Microneedling is appropriate for all skin types and on many body parts. The SkinPen adjusts from .25mm up to 2cm, which allows the provider to tailor a specific treatment for each patient.
There is a minimal risk of infection or scarring since the SkinPen doesn’t remove or damage the epidermis.
re-build your skin
SkinPen creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.
Skin Pen Procedure
A topical anesthetic is typically applied 30 minutes prior to beginning the microneedling procedure.
The sensation of microneedling is a mild stinging sensation and is very comfortable for most people.
Generally, patients report feeling the slight vibration of the SkinPen during the procedure.
The treatment typically takes about 30-60 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated and the degree of treatment requested.
BEFORE: You will need to remove all makeup and moisturizers when you come in for your treatment. Many people find it easier not to wear makeup to their appointment. Do not use any self-tanners four weeks prior to microneedling and avoid sun exposure. Avoid treatments that may irritate your skin 1-2 weeks prior to treatment such as waxing or microdermabrasion. If you have a history of herpes or cold sores, you may need an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment.
AFTER: Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to prevent further sun damage. Redness and swelling are common and resolve with time. We will provide a specific skin care regimen for you to follow post-procedure to support the wound-healing environment. Follow the post-procedure protocol for the first 48 hours. What you DON’T put on your skin is as important as what you DO!
Avoid heat – hot tubs, saunas, etc. for 1-2 days. Avoid skin irritants such as products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc. Please remember to follow the recommended skin care regimen provided in our office for optimal results. Always remember to drink plenty of water to support the healing process.
