Spider Vein TreatmentXEO Laser
Utilizing our Nd:Yag laser treatment, spider veins are targeted and effectively eliminated using our Xeo laser technology over a series of treatments.
Laser treatment is most effective for small, superficial red or blue veins. Patients with numerous nodular varicosities may not be good candidates for laser therapy. The Nd:Yag laser penetrates the skin and targets the superficial blood vessel. The heat generated from the laser coagulates the blood inside the vessel, causing it to breakdown, collapse and seal. Over the subsequent weeks, the vessel will disappear and the body’s scavenging cells will remove all the blood. The Nd:Yag laser allows the delivery of a precise dosage of energy to each blood vessel without injuring any nearby structures.
What to expect?XEO Laser
Once the veins have been treated successfully and your body has reabsorbed them, they will not return. However, because of genetics and other factors, you will likely form new veins in different areas over the coming years that may need continued laser treatment.
What Does It Feel Like?XEO Laser
Typically a mild to moderate stinging sensation is felt at the time of spider vein treatments.
For maximum comfort during the procedure, we use ice packs and chilled gel. Our laser is equipped with a gold-plated sapphire-cooling tip to help cool your skin during the laser treatment. With this measure, the laser treatment for many people is very comfortable.
A topical numbing agent on the skin is not needed but is always available.
A bright light will be evident even though your eyes are completely protected with a protective eye shield.
BEFORE: Don’t use any self-tanners two weeks prior to spider vein treatment and avoid sun exposure. Avoid treatments that may irritate your skin 1-2 weeks prior to treatment such as waxing.
Avoid aspirin, alcohol and smoking for at least one week prior to the procedure.
AFTER: It is important to avoid hot tubs, saunas and high impact exercise for the first 72 hours after your laser vein treatment. The veins needs to remain closed for good results from your laser treatment.
We recommend wearing compression stockings (20-30 mm/hg) for the first 72 hours.
Bruising, redness and swelling are common and resolve with time.
Hemosiderin staining (brown staining) may occur after a treatment and usually resolves with time but, on a rare occasion, it may be permanent.
Strict avoidance of sun exposure may decrease risk of permanent hemosiderin staining.
Staying hydrated can help in the healing process.
